Project
Customer's project involves multiple parties using different modeling tools during product development. These models need to be exchanged and refined during the development lifecycle.
An XMI 1.1 software integration module need to be developed which will support model transformation from an UML 2.0 tool to a UML 1.4 tool using XMI 1.1.
Solutions
A pre-study was completed by Plasma Web Design which evaluated the difference in the model details between UML 2.0 and UML 1.4. It analyzed the impact of such a move on the model and the risk associated with it.
Finally, a strategy was defined for transformation of certain features from UML 2.0 to UML 1.4 which are not supported in the latter version.
The module developed utilized XMI 1.1 specification for representing the model. The generated file was finally read into the tool by the XMI importer in the other tool.
