The Internet of Things is the next forefront of technology and soon we’ll be gathering data from almost everything in our world. We already know how functional these \u201cSmart Devices\u201d can be. The Nest home thermostat might be the most recognizable smart device today. With products like the Fitbit<\/a> and Jawbone Up we can track our sleeping habits and activity levels. Valencell<\/a> can track your heart rate and calorie burn. Needless to say, the data being transmitted via this new Internet of Things is about to flood our world from almost every corner.<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

We all know what the Internet is and where it got its humble beginnings (Al Gore \ud83d\ude09 It’s estimated that the size of the Internet is at least 500 exabytes<\/a> which is about 500,000,000,000 gigabytes or roughly 150 trillion Maroon 5 songs! By 2016 Cisco predicts that internet traffic will be 1.33 Zettabytes, that\u2019s 10^21. All of that data was input in some way by humans; maybe by a keyboard, a camera, a microphone or some other device, but ultimately by a human. Now that we’re seeing microchips in everything from shoes to light bulbs that can “talk” to each other via the Internet, that number is about to get a whole lot bigger.<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

The Internet of things will consist of almost everything that we come in contact with on a daily basis. It will include the obvious things like your car, your thermostat, your television and so on but also things that aren’t really tech related at all. Things like your bed, your windows and doors, your refrigerator, your washing machine, even your tables will soon make up the Internet of things.<\/p>

Imagine the everyday objects you interact with telling you even more about your world. That’s the promise of the Internet of Things. Having your mattress tell you when it needs to be rotated, or your plants notifying you that they need water<\/a> is the new reality. Our crowded world of messaging is about to get overcrowded with all of our “things” now competing for our attention.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
